Episode 9, Geilo

The Sun is Back

geiloThis episode is devoted to the orange. To get himself started before he ventures out on his skis, Andreas makes himself a grilled cheese sandwich with cheese and orange marmalade. This is enjoyed with a cup of hot cocoa topped with orange marmalade cream.

There is something magical about the highlands. Skiing on the top of the world gives people a sense of eternity. But some people take a more hands-on approach to life. Ice fishing is one of the most popular leisure activities of the region. The lakes have a lot of fish hidden beneath the ice. Andreas is offered a couple of Char. In return, he prepares the char by turning them over in flour with a little bit of salt and curry added. A Curry and Orange Butter is blended and dabbed onto each fish before it is served with a sprinkle of spring onions and orange.

Preparing the Main Dishes
The main dish is Orange Chicken, one of Andreas’ favorite chicken recipes. This may seem like a strange combination, but the orange actually serves many purposes. The cavity of the chicken is stuffed with the oranges and onions. In addition, a little saffron and melted butter give the chicken a nice orange color. The chicken is served with fennel. This is a vegetable that goes very well with the orange chicken.

The dessert, Orange a la Norvegienne is a French recipe inspired by the cold and snowy climate of Norway. The cavity of the oranges is filled with ice cream and topped with meringue.
